No single issue in recent times has boggled my mind quite like this one does. Raising the debt ceiling when it needs to be raised is simply something the government does. It does this so that the United States does not default on its debt. Really, it is that simple. This is not the issue to use for political games. Our country's creditworthiness is not an issue that you play political chicken with. This should not even be a discussion.
The Republicans in Congress, it seems, think that having our country default on its debt is fiscally responsible, more fiscally responsible than closing a few tax loopholes. This puzzles me greatly. Let me say it again--this issue should not even be an issue. There should be no discussion. It is too economically serious to play games with. There is really nothing more to say.
